Architectural Historian - Immediate Opening, New England / Mid-Atlantic Regions
is seeking an experienced
Architectural Historian
to join our Historic Preservation Team (HPT). Based in Pawtucket, RI, PAL offers a wide range of historic preservation services to a broad client base that consists of governmental agencies, corporations, engineering firms, and private developers from the energy, telecommunications, and environmental market sectors.
As a key member of the HPT, the Architectural Historian conducts a variety of historic property identification and evaluation projects to assist our clients in complying with federal and state historic preservation laws and regulations.
Responsibilities : Coordinate and conduct targeted research at local, state, and national repositories to document the history of properties and provide information for the development of historic context statementsConduct field surveys to identify and record historic buildings, structures, objects, landscapes, and districts within defined project areasEvaluate properties by applying National Register of Historic Places criteria for evaluation and integrityAssess the effects of client projects on historic propertiesWrite concise and accurate survey reports and other forms of historic property documentation that clearly convey the results of investigationsSupervise and mentor associate architectural historiansRequirements : Post-graduate degree or equivalent in architectural history, American history, public history, historic preservation, or closely related fieldAt least three years of experience in conducting historic architectural property identification surveys for projects requiring compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA and state historic preservation laws and regulationsDemonstrated experience in preparing historic architectural survey reports, National Register nominations / determinations of eligibility, and HABS / HAER and / or state level documentation reportsValid Driver’s License with a clean driving recordMust be able to travel on day and overnight tripsCompensation
