Job Overview:
As the first point of contact, the Patient Access Representative verifies the eligibility and availability of a patient's insurance status with insurance companies
to ensure proper coverage and payment for services. Working with other members of the team, this role will also coordinate the
patient scheduling, insurance pre-certification and authorizations.
Registers patients for ambulatory, surgery and admissions through the full, as well as the quick registration process. Also pre-registers patients for services.- Reviews/updates patient insurance, contact and demographic information for each patient encounter.
- Schedules clinic appointments; confirms scheduled appointments via computerized telephone system.
- Maintains current patient information in the Shriners Hospital for Children's (SHCIS) electronic medical record.
- Works closely with the Outpatient nursing staff, arranging outside patient care services.
- Administers insurance pre-authorizations/insurance verifications for scheduled ambulatory appointments.
- Enters required encounter information into SHCIS. Inputs for each patient encounter type, which includes day surgery and same day admissions.
Qualifications:
Two years plus patient scheduling, registration and insurance verification. Microsoft Office Suite, along with familiarity with medical terminology is strongly preferred. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred, not required.
