What are the responsibilities and job description for the Per Diem Registered Nurse position at SightMD CT?
SUMMARY: As the Registered Nurse (RN), you will be responsible for acting as the supervisor of the patient, while in the preoperative, operative, and recovery room areas, including direct supervision of the medical assistants, acting as patient advocate, and ensuring that quality care is administered. You will be responsible for providing quality care using the nursing process, the medical plan of care and organizational policies. You should be able to communicate professionally, be highly organized, have a strong customer service background, possess excellent computer and organizational skills, and embody a welcoming/friendly demeanor.
Your schedule will vary, dependent on the operational hours of the office as surgery/physician schedules dictate. You must have the flexibility to work within these hours of operation, including occasional weekends, early mornings, or late evenings as needed.
Job Duties & Essential Functions:
- Educate patient and family on surgical procedures and set appropriate expectations
- Review patient health questionnaires and medical clearance; address any concerns prior to procedure
- Assess patient charts for accuracy and review patient history, records baseline, physical status, and any change in status, relay to physician as appropriate
- Provide emotional support for patients pre and post operatively
- Provide timely and accurate communication to all surgical staff; update frequently
- Review medical clearances and any necessary pre-operative tests to ensure completeness, report necessary history to anesthesia
- Assess and interview patients to establish baseline vital signs and physical status; report and accurately document observations to operating team
- Assist patients to operative suite and recovery areas while assessing the postoperative status, receiving report from circulating Registered Nurse RN; assure patient comfort
- Assist in the discharging of patients
- Obtain and stock surgical rooms with supplies and equipment for each specific procedure
- Maintain knowledge of drugs used and administer safely and accurately as required and directed by a physician provider
- Rotate sterile supplies and remove outdated items
- Dispose of contaminated needle containers in appropriate receptacle
- Additional tasks as assigned and directed by your supervisor
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Nursing required
- Experience within an ASC setting required
- Minimum of 2 years management/supervisory experience; preferably within an ASC setting
- Current ACLS/BLS certification required
- Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
- Above average customer service skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual Spanish a plus
Competencies:
- The Registered Nurse shall be responsible for the direction, provision, and quality of nursing services provided to
patients when the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing are not on the premise.
Pre-operative
- Receives the patient from the admissions staff and escorts patient to pre-operative area chair after preoperative
assessment in the interview room (Policy 4-4).
- Records base line vital signs in the EMR.
- EKG is placed on the patient and connected to pre-operative area monitor.
- Saline lock is inserted by the anesthesiologist with assistance by the pre-operative area staff.
- Reviews all medical document in patient's medical records with patient for verification.
- Informs surgeon or anesthesiologist of any patient problems.
- 7. Provides emotional support to patient during pre-operative experience. Answers any questions that patient's
family member/caregiver may have.
- Assists anesthesiologist with administration of peribulbar block.
Post-operative
- Under the direction of anesthesia or surgeon, gives immediate attention to the patient upon arrival in the
recovery area, with necessary equipment: O2, suction, blood pressure cuff and monitor. Receives report from
O.R. staff and documents all care given.
- Checks patient for level of consciousness, blood pressure. pulse, respiration and PONV immediately and
thereafter, as indicated by the patient's condition.
- Checks dressing as needed. Alerts surgeon il bleeding is present. Notes patient's skin color, skin
temperature, and IV site.
- Protects patient from injury. Moves patient gently and easily, positioning for comfort and maintaining patient
dignity.
- Assists in discharge of the patient:

- Anesthesiologist/Surgeon will check patient and write a post-evaluation note.
- Escorts patient to waiting area to responsible adule and transfers the patient to the admissions staff.
- Cleans and stores non-disposable and disposable supplies and equipment.
- Equipment is cleaned with an EPA registered cleaner.
- All equipment is damp dusted with phenolic or sterilized at the end of the day.

medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
