Machine Operator

(Contract to Hire Placement for Client)

 

SIGMADESIGN has collaborated with a leading frozen foods company seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join their facility in Portland, OR. With a collective heritage spanning over 250 years in the United States, the company continues to serve as a leader in the specialty frozen foods industry.

Primary Function:

Machine operators ensure automated machines are working at full capacity while producing quality product, thus obtaining daily production goals and objectives. Machine operators make sure automated machines are well-maintained and perform periodic checks on output. Visually inspect production run and document results. Determine and report malfunctions to appropriate parties. Maintain cleanliness of equipment and assigned area. 

 

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times.
  • Perform line set up, start up, operations, closing and changeover of equipment.
  • Ensure product quality are met throughout process.
  • Performs checks and inspections to verify quality.
  • Performs adjustments as necessary.
  • Performs machine setups in accordance to applicable procedures and setup sheets.
  • Accurately completes and maintains all production records.
  • Responsible for reporting problems to department lead.
  • Adequate housekeeping at all times during shift, creating an organized layout for all personnel.
  • Review and assure appropriate adherence with quality, safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the lead.

 

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)

  • High School education; Diploma or GED certificate.
  • At least one-year min operating industrial equipment in a production environment.
  • Experience as a food process packaging machine operator and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) interaction experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English. Ability to write reports in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group managers, employees, clients, customers, and the general public in English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read a graph with z-axis.
  • Ability to use a calculator.
  • Ability to trouble shoot quickly. Have an understanding of “home” or starting position.
  • Knowledge of ADCO or other robotic packaging operations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to feel, ability to speak and hear.
  • The employee is required to stand long periods, walk, sit, bend and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is required to lift up to 50 lbs. or more.
  • The employee is required to use close vision, color vision, and must be able to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud noise. The employee is required to wear ear protection equipment at all times. Temperatures vary from freezing to hot, cold or wet environment.
  • Work Weekends and overtime

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
