What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Engineering Manager position at Signal Energy Logo?
As a Design Engineering Manager, you are responsible for creating innovative and cost-competitive designs that meet all customer and AHJ specifications, as well as identifying, evaluating, and implementing new technology and products. You will ensure the Business Development team has the technical support needed to compete to win, provide clear design quantities and cost-effective solutions to the estimating and procurement teams, select and manage the appropriate outside engineering support, and deliver a clear, constructible design package to the field. You will report to the VP of Engineering and will be working remotely. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Mentor the Design Engineers individually as they develop in their careers and motivate them to continue learning, improving, and living out Signal’s Core Principles
- Drive the design development stage of each project keeping quality, budget, and schedule at the forefront of all decisions and prioritizations.
- Manage the day-to-day workload for Design Engineers, prioritize tasks, and seek input from appropriate subject matter experts
- Monitor all engineering activities within a Business Unit to ensure customer expectations are exceeded and Signal Energy consistently delivers innovative, best in class technical solutions
- Drive internal and external collaboration and reviews to ensure all designs meet project requirements at every stage. Optimize project cost, performance, constructability, and risk
- Facilitate Design Review sessions, hold drawing reviews, attend customer meetings, host touchpoints with EORs, and respond promptly to RFIs
- Implement and collaborate on the continuous improvement of a robust set of design best practices, standards, and review processes including CAD templates, preferred equipment lists, typical specifications, and approach to energy modeling
- Champion innovation and creativity in design tools, processes, and plant technology to make Signal Energy an industry leader in these aspects
- Manage appropriate outside engineering support with defined scopes of work and build trusted partnerships
- Support Estimating and Procurement with technical evaluations of consulting engineers, subcontractor, and vendor proposals to affirm all customer proposals are based on sound engineering principles
- Assemble thorough documentation and implement a uniform turnover strategy to prepare the Field team with high quality, realistic, and well-defined designs to construct
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a similar technical field (Electrical Engineering preferred) from an accredited university
- 3 years’ experience in planning, design, and/or operations of photovoltaic systems
- Must be proficient in AutoCAD, PVSyst, Procore, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Preferable to also have experience with Civil3D, Helios3D, Microsoft Project, and possess the ability to evaluate and implement new software
- Able to travel for team meetings and occasional site visits, up to 10%
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to synthesize data and insights into actionable decisions
