Job Summary: The Affordable Housing Relocation Specialist supports individuals and families in relocating from their current homes to affordable housing options, particularly in cases of redevelopment, renovation, or displacement. This role involves coordinating with residents, property owners, and relevant agencies to ensure a seamless transition while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local housing regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Resident Outreach and Support:
- Communicate with residents facing relocation to explain the process, options available, and their rights.
- Provide counseling and guidance to residents on housing options, financial assistance, and community resources.
- Relocation Planning and Coordination:
- Develop and implement relocation plans that minimize disruption to residents and ensure timely transitions.
- Coordinate with property managers, developers, and government agencies to secure suitable housing for displaced residents.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act (URA), DCA and other relevant regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of all interactions, agreements, and relocation activities, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Financial Assistance and Budgeting:
- Assist residents in applying for financial assistance programs, including moving expenses and rent subsidies.
- Manage relocation budgets and ensure that all costs are tracked and reported accurately.
- Community Engagement:
- Act as a liaison between residents, community organizations, and local governments to address concerns and facilitate smooth transitions.
- Conduct community meetings and workshops to inform residents about the relocation process and available resources.
- Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution:
- Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during the relocation process, ensuring resident needs are met.
- Work with legal teams as necessary to ensure all relocations are conducted lawfully and fairly.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2-4 years of experience in affordable housing, relocation services, or property management.
- Strong knowledge of housing laws and regulations, including the URA.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and handle sensitive situations with compassion and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with housing management software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with low-income or vulnerable populations.
- Bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish) are a plus.
- Certification in housing counseling or relocation services.
