What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Design Engineer position at SIGNATURE SOLAR LLC?
Job Summary: As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing structural cases, conduit boxes, metal structures for a variety of applications. Your primary responsibility will be to apply your expertise in mechanical engineering to create durable and reliable cases that provide protection for sensitive electronic equipment or products. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will conceptualize, design, and test structural cases ensuring they meet performance requirements, industry standards, and client specifications.
Responsibilities:
Case Conceptualization and Design:
Collaborate with product development teams to understand the requirements and constraints for structural cases.
Utilize engineering principles and CAD software to conceptualize and design cases that meet functional, aesthetic, and ergonomic needs.
Structural Analysis and Simulation:
Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and other structural simulations to assess the performance of case designs under various loading conditions.
Identify potential failure modes and optimize designs for strength, stiffness, and durability.
Ergonomics and Thermal Analysis:
Knowledge of ergonomic principles and ability to apply them in defining the product.
Conduct thermal analysis to evaluate heat transfer, thermal stress and temperature distribution in mechanical systems and components.
Material Selection and suitability:
Evaluate materials for their suitability in case construction, considering factors such as mechanical manufacturing processes to ensure optimal performance and manufacturability.
Prototype Development and Testing:
Oversee the prototyping process, working closely with suppliers or in-house facilities to produce physical prototypes of case designs.
Coordinate and conduct rigorous testing and validation of prototypes to verify structural integrity and performance.
Design Optimization and Iteration:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to iterate upon case designs based on feedback from testing, analysis, and stakeholder input.
Implement design changes and refinements to enhance performance, reliability, and user experience.
Manufacturability and Cost Optimization:
Work with manufacturing partners to ensure that case designs are optimized for efficient production and assembly.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality or performance.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive documentation of case designs, including drawings, specifications, test reports, and design validation documentation.
Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate design rationale, performance results, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
Proven experience in structural design and analysis, preferably in the field of case or enclosure design.
Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA.
Strong understanding of structural mechanics, finite element analysis (FEA), and material properties.
Experience with structural simulation software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran.
Knowledge of materials selection, manufacturing processes, and assembly techniques.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to structural design and product safety.
Experience with rapid prototyping and testing methodologies is a plus.
