It provides commercial medical testing services and facilitates research initiatives by leveraging current and un-realized clinical patient test data generation.

Job Description:

As an SDx Research Lab Technician, you will assist the Lab Director and fellow techs in the day-to-day laboratory duties. While working in the lab, you will have the ability to perform a variety of experiments using both routine and special techniques and methods. Additionally, this role must be able to analyze technical problems pertaining to specimen adequacy, laboratory data, and instrumentation; determine cause and rectify problems in accordance with guidelines and procedures. The Research Lab Tech will also engage in simple and moderately complex clinical research studies alongside researchers at McGhee. This Technician is also required to maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments; as well as recognize any physiological conditions affecting test results. The right candidate will also play a critical role in assisting the Lab Manager create, develop, modify and implement new and existing assays. All employees working within the lab setting must be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Roles:

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, including the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct library research to assist in the planning, modification, and design of experiments.
  • Create research documents, presentations, and educational materials for patients, staff, and faculty.
  • Generation, interpretation, and reporting of high-quality data.
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Actively engage in problem-solving efforts, relative to daily lab activities.
  • Perform instrumentation troubleshooting to correct problems; refer problems appropriately to instrument vendors.
  • Execute routine and specialized tests in assigned area of the laboratory; interpret tests results and correlate laboratory findings with disease state; confirm abnormal results and result discrepancies and initiate follow-up to resolve discrepancies.
  • Calibrate instruments; performs and documents preventative and corrective maintenance, function checks, and repairs on instruments and equipment.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Evaluate specimen adequacy for test performance.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Perform, evaluate, and document quality control data and assure that patient results are not reported when tolerance limits are exceeded; documents quality occurrences in compliance with the quality plan of the department; advises manager of significant quality control/quality assurance issues. Perform testing on proficiency testing samples.
  • Use quality control policies to document all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Document all corrective actions are taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance. Specifications; and perform high complexity testing only under the onsite, direct supervision of a general supervisor.
  • Maintain lab compliances as well as stay up to date with most recent laboratory and SDx company trainings.
  • Adhere to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary records and quality data are maintained.
  • Review, repeat, and verify laboratory results according to standard operating procedures; report critical (panic) values or unusual results in accordance with established policy.
  • Assist with inventory management of supplies and assure that laboratory areas remain stocked with needed supplies.
  • Participate in the preparation for all inspections by accrediting agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients, families, and staff in accordance with HIPPA laws.
  • Adhere to customer service standards of hospital, lab, department, and company.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Academic work experience in a lab required
  • Any experience in the medical/lab environment required
  • Experience working in a CLIA/CAP accredited lab required
  • Experience working in GXP environments is a plus
  • Broad training in analytical techniques
  • Familiarity with chromatographic (e.g. SEC, RP, HIC), electrophoretic (e.g. CE-SDS, icIEF), mass spectrometric, or biophysical (e.g. MALS, CD, DSC) techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with individuals from a variety of levels and functions

  • Valid driver’s license and regular use of a vehicle
