Blending Room Operator-SAN Wet Plant Day- (A-Shift)

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Determines batch ingredients and oversees the operation of the blending room. ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Determines product flow. Receives production schedule and predetermined ratios. Conducts a reasonable consideration of plant inventory levels, plant production requirements and product specifications. In accordance with the production schedule, determines which ingredients to select for each batch in order to achieve the least cost formula. Demonstrates a strong ability for intuitive thinking. Directs and monitors the activities of Utility in assigned room. Directs Utility to perform visual inspections, shovel discharged product from totes, and other general duties as needed. Answers questions and works to resolve issues as they are presented. Calibrates the metal detector. Using a metal detection wand, calibrates the metal detector to ensure machine is ready. Notifies QA if machine is out of variance. Performs light, basic and routine maintenance on machine. May grease bearings, ensure machine guards are put on properly, apply basic lubrication, and conduct basic preoperation cleaning. Responsible for weekly sanitation in accordance with set procedures. Prepares cleaning chemicals; ensures the correct concentration, and ensures the proper cleaning chemicals are loaded. Demonstrates correct lock-out tag procedures. Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization. Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. Physical Activities: Must be able to singularly lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand freely and move about the facility. Must be able to perform active range of motion movements as needed. Must be able to work in a cool environment (down to 40 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 8 hours. Occasional climbing stairs; simple grasping; talking; use of hearing. Constant standing; bending at the neck and waist; power grasping; pushing/pulling; reaching below shoulder level; use of vision. Inside line work around loud equipment/machinery; walking around drains, footbaths, hoses; exposure to cold; wet environment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, safety glasses, smock andsafety toed shoes. Travel: None. Technical Experience: Must be comfortable with a personal computer. Experience with MS Excel required. Strong math skills required. Industry Experience: Preference for poultry or food manufacturing experience. Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Preferred Education: N/A
