Maintain the Company fleet in accordance with established schedules and all government regulations.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Repairs and keeps electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial trucks running properly, following manuals, and using hand tools, power tools, and knowledge of electrical, power transmission, brake, and other automotive systems.
- Reads job orders and observes and listens to trucks in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.
- Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts, using hand tools. Overhauls gas or diesel engines, using mechanic's hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts, and hoists.
- Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments, using hand tools. Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired trucks to verify conformance to specifications.
Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Be able to efficiently work in a garage environment. Regularly required to stand, reach and move about the facility. Various levels of physical effort required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Will use appropriate footwear, gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses and other protective equipment as needed or required.
Travel: NA
Technical Experience: Must have at least 1 year diesel mechanic experience. Certification from vo-tech or trade school preferred. Must be able to provide tools.
Industry Experience: N/A
Minimum Education: Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
Preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED.
