Lead Systems Engineer
SimVentions is a 100% employee-owned business and has consistently been voted one of Virginia's Best Places to Work. We are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to join our team. Our current customer develops and integrates autonomy and artificial intelligence (AAI) enabled weapon systems. The Lead System Engineer will interface with other engineering functional areas (i.e. mechanical, software engineering, platform integration, test, risk management and safety) and external organizations to gather system requirements to inform and guide the programs activities. These systems engineers will work closely with project leads, technical leads, and entire multi-disciplinary project team to achieve program success. A formal background in System Engineering is required. Experience with Cameo System Modeler is desired as well. The ability to interact with other government agency employees and contract workers in order to achieve mission success is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Apply system engineering practices for requirements definition and decomposition, design and implementation of customer and end-user requirements
- Develop Systems Engineering content and documentation in support of a program’s goals, to include but not limited to system design, build, integration, and ultimate S&T demonstration in a realistic environment or deployment into an operational environment
- Develop and document a program’s Systems Engineering Plan and technology development/readiness strategy, test and evaluation strategy
- Document system architecture designs including design component interfaces to create the system while maintaining government owned interfaces, define component/sub component level specifications, and work with software and platform integration teams to develop system requirements
- Working group discussions with the appropriate stakeholders
- Support program execution and reviews, including tailored prototyping concept, preliminary and critical design reviews
- Interface with the operational user, platform owner, system safety SME’s etc. to refine the system design
- Interface with component developers to address component development and/or modification
- Responsible for updating designs using CAMEO Systems Modeler
- Required to coordinate multiple projects requirement entries, deadlines, and competing priorities with engineers, software developers, principal investigators, contractors and sponsors
Requirements:
- United States Citizenship & ACTIVE Secret Clearance
- Understanding of, and experience with, DoD and Navy systems engineering approaches, methods,
and tools in the weapon system development process. - Experience with developing performance requirements with component and system level defined objective quality evidence (OQE)
- Track record of providing engineering advice and guidance to teammates, project leadership, and
sponsors on specific technical aspects of systems or concept development. - Ability to identify, decompose, and resolve complex problems or technical issues, and apply solutions
readily in a dynamic environment. - Ability to communicate effectively at peer and executive levels on technical concepts, orally and in
written form. - Ability to work successfully with other employees, contractors, and academic partners in order to
achieve mission success is essential. - Knowledge in software and hardware system development from prototype to delivery – system level lifecycle.
- Ability to define and deliver test schedules and test plans as part of a structured delivery of technology.
- Ability to construct and refine architecture diagrams.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge in weapons systems and fire control systems.
- Knowledge in machine learning, computer vision, neural Networks and artificial intelligence.
- Operating systems: Proficiency in Linux / Ubuntu, and commonly associated system administration tasks.
Education: A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline is required
Clearance: A Secret Clearance is required for this position. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US Citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.
Travel: Occasional travel may be required.

Compensation at SimVentions is determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, security clearance, work location, skills, knowledge, and competencies, as well as alignment with our corporate compensation plan and contract specific requirements.
The projected annual compensation range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 (USD). This estimate reflects the standard salary range for this position and is just one component of the total compensation package that SimVentions offers.
