What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teacher - 3 Year Old Class position at Skaneateles Nursery School?
Skaneateles Nursery School is Skaneateles’ oldest early childhood program, founded in 1964 as a Co-Op Nursery School, the school has continued to offer high quality early childhood education in a Co-Op model. Parents are directly involved in the school by volunteering in the classroom.
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Education (preferred, but not required) along with teaching experience, excellent communication skills, patience and understanding for the Pre-K age group and a flexible and team-oriented mindset.
Hiring date: The 2024/2025 School Year starts the week of September 16th and we generally start meeting September 1st. School year ends first week of June.
Hours: AM Classes 8:30-12:30 Monday-Friday. There are also several other combinations of school days that could work for our programming, so please reach out if you have limited availability during the week (only MWF or TThF, for example). There is also the option to work afternoons for our afternoon programming.
Job Description:
- Prepare daily lessons and exercises following age-appropriate, school readiness curriculum.
Partner with the Director to follow guidelines for age group, create lesson plans, projects and field trips.
- Organize and lead games, arts and crafts, and other activities designed to help students learn, expend energy and work in groups.
- Provide the Director with monthly themes and information to be sent to the parents in the newsletter or other communications.
- Help students integrate with one another and interact in groups, whether they’re working on curriculum, completing tasks, or during play activities.
- Prepare an annual progress report for each child and be prepared to meet with each child’s parents concerning the child’s progress.
- Requisition to the Director all supplies, equipment, and services (including care and repair of materials) as needed and within the budget.
- Class size is generally 11 students with one parent volunteer assisting you.
- Attend faculty meetings, program coordinator meetings, and Board of Director meetings as requested.
- Attend Orientation, Special Person Night, Registration, Fall Open House and other special events as needed (these are paid).
- Devote adequate time preceding first semester and the following second semester for preparation and storage of school materials.
Salary: Hourly wage of $19.50
Benefits: Two weeks Paid Time off and Paid Holidays and days off including snow days according to the Skaneateles School District calendar
