About the Position:
This is a unique opportunity to start on the ground floor of SKF and work your way up! Working in this facility will involve learning very specific skills unique to this branch of SKF. These rare skills are in high demand! You will learn skills that you cannot learn in any school as a machine operator at this SKF location!
SKF Specialty Balls Colebrook, manufactures precision bearing balls for Aerospace and Automotive industries. SKF Specialty Balls works closely with customers to develop unique customer solutions for their applications. This SKF Site is in Winsted, CT.

Responsibilities Include but Not Limited to:
- Work in a safe manner at all times, alert management of hazardous conditions.
- Read new and revised specifications as mandated.
- Process product to specifications, including cleaning & weigh/count, and to schedules provided.
- Operate induction heater & box furnace for hot forged product.
- Ensure thermal equipment and instrumentation are calibrated and chart recorders are operating.
- Utilize and maintain insulated containers.
- Verify raw material selected is properly released and confirm wire/rod size.
- Ensure raw material heat matches manufacturing router.
- Set up & operate headers, perform adjustments, and sharpen/polish tooling.
- Perform in-process inspections, including dimensional measurement, visual inspection, and ball weight.
- Report processing information on routers and process log sheets.
- Perform assigned repairs and Preventive Maintenance.
- Verify applicable inspection/processing equipment is in calibration before use.
- Plot results on control charts.
- Maintain items in Tooling Control Program.
- Identify, segregate, and initiate Discrepancy Reports for nonconforming product.
- Contact supervision immediately to report equipment problems.
- Ensure lot traceability.
- Participate in the Cross Training program and work.
- Cover for vacations as needed in other trained areas.
Physical Requirements:
- Varied postures – sitting, standing, leaning forward, turning side to side.
- Transports product from one area to another.
- Use of Hand Carts – pushing.
- Use of Hoist - pulling.
- Standing, sitting, walking in general.
- Pushing, carrying, or lifting to max. 50 lbs. occasionally.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED or higher degree.
- Mechanically inclined with excellent math skills.
- Experience working with Machine Shop Math.
- Own a pair of Steel Toed Boots.
- Previous experience in manufacturing process.
- Able to be very precise when taking measurements.
- This position is compliant to US government ITAR requirements.
- Due to the nature of the business, U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.
