Ski & Snowboard Club Vail - Technical Services - Technician, 2023/24 Season

Technician Position Goals

Gain more experience in, and develop a better understanding of, equipment setup and maintenance best practices for competitive athletes. Strive for mastery of these skills through the adoption of the highest quality standards, at high volume. Gain additional experience in initial preparation of equipment to World Cup standards throughout the course of the training and competition season.

  • Coordinate with Head Technician and Equipment Manager for execution of daily/weekly/monthly strategic planning
  • Responsible and efficient use of consumables inventory
  • Follow all Technical Services and Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Safety & Best Practices documents, initiatives and directives
  • On-time execution of daily/weekly workflow, all while in coordination with other staff members
  • Weekly evaluation of all Elite program athlete equipment condition; plan work proactively surrounding training/competition schedules with both co-workers and athletes
  • Coordinate with shop staff and Equipment Manager on all operational needs and requests
  • This position works closely with the Head Technician, other technicians and reports to the Equipment Manager
  • Be a great team player with co-coworkers, coaches, athletes and parents

General Job Responsibilities

Technical Services staff execute the preparation and tuning of equipment for Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Alpine, Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard programs on a daily basis to ensure equipment is appropriately set up and tuned for current training or competition conditions.

  • Daily coordination and communication with athletes, parents and staff to set up daily/weekly workflow
  • Inspection of equipment; determination of equipment condition
  • Daily completion of overnight edge & wax work utilizing machinery and hand tools
  • Random inspections of outgoing equipment for quality control, at or above SSCV standards
  • General machinery daily maintenance
  • General knowledge of wax application methods, brand systems, and selection per venue
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of alpine skiing/snowboarding and interest in the areas of competitive skiing
  • Attention to detail and a passion for the highest level of quality in the finished product
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic principles of ski and snowboard tuning
  • Ability to operate ski tuning machines, both manual and automated
  • Team player with ability to communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and co-workers

Work Shifts

  • ASAP - May 1, 2024
  • Mon-Fri: Flexible on 30 hrs/week
  • Sat: 3pm - 8pm (or until work is completed)
  • Sunday: Off
  • Schedules may flex depending on daily work flow and training schedules

Compensation & Benefits

  • Part time, hourly position

Pay: From $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
