Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Laboratory Chemist will directly
support our research and development advances and quality control and quality
assurance analysis. We are looking for a creative, cooperative laboratory chemist with
a wealth of technical and industry knowledge and a talent for process optimization.
As a laboratory chemist, will work in a laboratory setting to implement, analyze, and
improve processes, equipment, and products. You will also work with other
technicians and team members to understand project and product goals; design and
propose solutions, follow method protocols, perform laboratory duties, and assist in
implementing, troubleshooting, and reviewing plans as projects progress.
To be successful as a laboratory chemist, you should be passionate about research,
development, and science. Outstanding candidates have an in-depth knowledge of
chemistry and superb observations and analytical skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain recordsof quality assurance and qualitycontrol evaluationof
manufactured bait batches for Client and US Environmental Protection
Agency audit.
- Must effectively work independently while maintaining clear
communication with supervisors to ensureaccomplishment of tasks in line
with the company’s manufacturing and R&D priorities.
- Must maintain neat and accurate laboratory records, as well a clean work area free of
safety hazards.
- Must maintain strict compliance with SPL/Client Safety, QC and Ethics Policies
- Perform routine maintenance for all SPL equipment used including PC,
scanners,instrumentation, parts, fittings, and sample cylinders.
- Must be able to operate PC and input data information into Laboratory
Information Management System (LIMS)
- Perform sample and QC analyses as specified by the test method
ensuring that all relevant and/or required information is properly
documented and recorded.
- Perform review/interpretation of results to verify that data is accurate and reasonable.
- Perform analytical calculations for reporting data into LIMS.
- Compare current data with historical data in LIMS to spot problem samples and notify
supervisor.
- Perform instrumentation calibrations and/or basic troubleshooting as needed.
- Properly dispose of samples and waste as required byprotocol.
- Track stock of consumablesupplies
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have several years’ experience working at the bench conducting chemical and
biochemical assays that use plate reading technology.
- Experience running gasand liquid chromatography systems, analyzing data
and performing statistical analyses.
- Be comfortable developingnew protocols from peer-review literature to
prepare samplesfor analysis on gas chromatography and liquid
chromatography systems.
- Demonstrated analytical and strong organizational skills, with ability to
follow establishedprotocols and provide input for improvement of efficiency,
where appropriate.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, often with tight or conflicting deadlines.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills (writing
sampleor brief presentation may be requested).
- Knowledge of laboratory bench techniques and GLP.
- The ability to execute assigned tasks quickly and accurately while maintaining a positive
attitude.
- Ability to acquire skills and concepts in a timelymanner.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and seek appropriate
feedback/clarification from leadership to ensure tasks are completed in
required timeframe and with work-product meeting established levelsof
expectation.
- Knowledge of MS Office products: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; Adobe Acrobat;
Apple and PC
- Must be able to applysound judgementbeyond a specific setof
instructionsand applyknowledge to different factual situations.
- Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
- Must be an active listener who can relay information clearly and concisely.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering and 5 years
professional experience OR Master’s degree Industry-specific knowledge required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Most working hours are in a laboratory or office setting, either working
independently or meeting with team members and corporate leadership in
a conference room.
- Most work is performed while sitting or standing at a laboratory bench or
scientific equipment. Ability to lift35 pounds required. Ability to use standard
lab and office equipment including computer, deskor cell phone, copier, and
fax machines.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $59,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
