What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal SE - Analytics position at Smartsheet?
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to design and implement Smartsheet's next generation architecture for our Dashboards, Portfolio Reporting and Analytics products. Start a conversation with us about our hardest problems in automated reporting, data visualization and on-demand data analysis. In this role, you will mentor other engineers, scale the team and can act as a lead on projects. You will drive positive change in the work environment with a consistent track record of delivering on commitments. You will communicate proactively and effectively to different kinds of audiences, including executives and non-technical stakeholders.
Our engineers are passionate about working on various projects using modern technologies to launch high impact features with scale in mind. We are product-minded and work collaboratively with Product, UX/UI, and partner engineering orgs to influence customer journey. We have full ownership of our Frontend, Backend, Infrastructure, and Operations and are passionate about feature development and adapt quickly to customer feedback.
This position will report to a leader in our Engineering organization and can be based remotely from anywhere within the United States where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:
- Lead and provide direction to the engineering strategy with a hands-on engineering mindset by evaluating, prototyping, implementing and iterating on solutions
- Be a subject matter expert in multiple technical domains for Dashboards, Portfolio Reporting and Analytics products
- Provide engineering mentorship and lead best practices across multiple teams in the organization
You Have:
- 7 years of architecting, designing, and building scalable and highly available systems with broad knowledge hands-on experience of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS, supporting REST APIs and API security
- 7 years of programming experience with web technologies such Java, Typescript, React
- 3 years of cloud data warehousing experience
- 3 year experience working on real-time data and streaming applications
- Clear and objective writing and in-person communication
- Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis
