What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) position at SME?

To better serve our team members and clients, we are looking for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join and strengthen our team.
Projects typically consist of erection detailing reviews for new and existing buildings; but may include fabrication shops, DOT structures and bridges, industrial settings, utility structures, above ground storage tanks, and piping projects.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- A current American Welding Society (AWS) CWI certification, or ability to obtain with 6 months of hire.
- Capable of working from ladders, swing stages, aerial lifts, and at heights, walking steel following 100 percent tie off requirements, using appropriate fall protection equipment, and operating aerial lifts.
- A good safety and driving record.
- Is comfortable using a computer and smart phone.
- Able to successfully pass security background checks and drug screenings required by clients.
- Preferred but not required: Knowledge and/or certifications associated with nondestructive testing (UTT, UT, MT, PT), structural bolting, bridges, tanks, piping, and coatings inspection. Experienced with email, calendar, and Microsoft office computer programs and phone apps.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviewing bolted and welded structural connections for buildings, fabrication shop inspections, and additional specialty reviews. Reviewing welding procedures and welder qualifications. Steel testing as needed in our Materials Laboratory; including anchor rods, load testing of assemblies and components. Occasionally assisting with coatings, concrete, soil, or other testing as needed to support other services groups within SME.
