Snelling Personnel is recruiting an HR Manager for a successful, local company! This position will require someone to be very self-competent, as this is a manufacturing facility with a 1-person HR department.
Job Summary:
The Plant Human Resources Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department at the plant level, including talent acquisition, enforcement of Company policy and procedures, and administering pay, benefits, and leave. As a member of the plant management team, the HR Manager will be heavily involved in staffing, training, compensation administration and overall employee relations.
Essential Functions:
- Partner with plant management team to develop and implement site specific HR strategies and initiatives that support the overall business strategy
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices.
- Perform daily/weekly plant-wide rounding to maintain visibility and pulse of employees
- Oversee and manage the hourly and salaried performance appraisal process
- Manage the site payroll function, including time management, personnel changes, overtime, special payments, etc.
- Conduct full cycle recruitment for exempt, non-exempt and temporary positions including phone screens, interviews, conducting pre-employment drug and background checks and reference checks.
- Partner with plant management team to manage the site’s talent strategy which includes performance management, retention, and succession planning.
- Partner with plant management team to develop and administer learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
- Conduct new employee orientations and process new hire paperwork.
- Maintain HR documents including disciplinary documents, attendance forms, and any medical leave paperwork (i.e. worker’s comp, STD, LTD, retirement)
- Track and present HR metrics for weekly and ad hoc site management meetings
- Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Partner with the Safety Manager to oversee and administer the site’s Worker’s Compensation Program; assist in incident investigations to identify causes and recommended corrections.
- Partner with all Company manufacturing and administrative functions to ensure common implementation and compliance with HR related policies and procedures.
- Partner with plant management team to plan, organize and facilitate employee appreciation and recognition events and activities

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field from an accredited College or University required
- A minimum of 3 years of HR Generalist experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting required
- 5 years of experience in human resources field preferred
- HR credentials such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly desired
- Previous change management experience preferred
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Methodology preferred
Work Environment:
This position works between an office environment and a plant environment. Typical works hours are M-F during the core business hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, the facility operates 24/7 and flexibility to adjust hours as needed to support the business is required. The employee will regularly be working near moving mechanical parts and will on occasion be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, high, precarious places, or toxic and caustic chemicals. This position may be required to travel 3 to 4 times per year for up to a week at a time. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee may occasionally be required to stoop or reach with hands or arms. On occasion, the employee may lift up to 30 pounds. This position requires close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of a computer is frequent.
