What are the responsibilities and job description for the Linux Admin position at Snowrelic INC?
Participate in customer-facing meetings to review operational status of deployed
systems
Install, configure and maintain reliable operation of systems. Install and upgrade server
components and software, manage virtual servers and integrate automation processes
Oversee performance of systems and troubleshoot hardware and software errors by
running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing resolutions, and
assessing associated risks
Support system installation activities; e.g., breaking out packages and installing
equipment; creating installation drawings and/or instructions, managing cables (e.g.,
fiber, coaxial and twisted pair); installing initial OS and application software; developing
as-built documents; configuring initial system and checking equipment for proper
operation. Locations for equipment installation are international and often require
travelling on a quarterly basis - two to six weeks in duration
Provide local and/or remote support for network planning, lab testing, lab support,
troubleshooting and system administration support for systems deployed in the field or
in customer lab facilities
Provide multi-level on-site customer training for conducting site surveys, planning and
installing system functionality and system operation
Support sales personnel in pre-sales activities for new business opportunities
Occasionally provide 24/7 support
Qualifications
Active or current TS/SCI w/Poly (U.S. citizenship required)
Ability to obtain a medical clearance
Currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa
sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering,
mathematics or related field. College degree, in some cases, can be substituted by
work experience
At least four (4) years of relevant work experience in a systems administration role
with two (2) years of specialized, relevant technical work experience. Work
experience, in some cases can be substituted by college degree
Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and solving problems in complex
communications systems. Ability to identify and analyze functional and operational
requirements, and develop solutions to satisfy emerging needs
Experience with hands-on rack-and-stack installation, commissioning and
maintenance of servers and systems; and, creating install guides and as-built
documentation
Experience working directly with development team to resolve software and
hardware problems; and, applying software and hardware patches
Linux / Unix system and network administration experience
Strong knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, NAT, routing and
switching
Experience with firewall and vpn configuration
Understanding of telemetry; reading/verifying/improving documentation
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
Must be able to repeatedly lift objects up to 50 lbs without assistance
