JOB SUMMARY:
A Certified Hospice Aide is a paraprofessional person who is specifically trained, competent and performs assigned functions of personal care to the patient in their residence under the direction, instruction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN).

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must meet Medicare Conditions of Participation for Home Health Aide training program and competency.
- Have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and elderly.
- Ability to carry out directions, read and write.
- Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:
- Ability to work independently, make accurate, and at times, quick judgments.
- Ability to respond appropriately to crisis outside of a hospital setting.
- Acceptance of and adaptability to different social, racial, cultural, and religious modes.
JOB FACTORS
Physical Requirements:
- Requires minimal physical effort most of the day including kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, walking, exposure to temperature and humidity changes and minimal assist in lifting and/or transferring of a 20 pound patient. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use appropriate adaptive devices that will enable senses to function at a level required to meet the essential duties of the position. Must provide evidence of annual TB test and other state-require tests or examinations.
Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to work independently, make judgments based on assessments and data available and act accordingly. Must be flexible, innovative and possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability.
Working Conditions:
- Be able to tolerate exposure to elements including, but not limited to, odors, blood, body fluids and excrements, adverse environmental conditions and hazardous materials.
Transportation:
- Must have a current valid driver’s license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation.
Responsibilities:
- Understands and adheres to established Agency policies and procedures.
- Performs personal care, bath and hands-on care as assigned.
- Completes appropriate visit records in a timely manner as per Agency policy.
- Reports changes in the patient’s condition and needs to the RN.
- Performs household services essential to health care in the home as assigned.
- Ambulates and exercises the patient as assigned.
- Performs simple procedures as an extension of the therapy or nursing services, e.g., range of motion (ROM) exercises as assigned.
- Assists with medications that are ordinarily self-administered as assigned.
- Attends inservice and continuing education programs as scheduled and necessary.
- Attends patient care conferences as scheduled.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
