Description
Under the direction of the Medical Laboratory Director the Director of Laboratory Operations is responsible for managing all general office policies and is the liaison between laboratories.
Requirements
Essential functions:
· Manage all laboratory staff daily. Monitor work practices and ensure all stated policies and procedures are followed.
· Monitor receipt, processing, and eventual reporting of all specimens received and processed in the laboratory.
· Responsible for business growth and development.
· Maintains working relationships with all physician’s offices.
· Monitor accrediting agency regulations.
· Review Quality Assurance.
· Review and monitor, and test methodologies, policies, processes, procedures, and forms for technical and information system processes, quality, and safety programs.
· Approve and order Laboratory Equipment
· Holding regularly scheduled staff meetings.
· Maintaining and operating within a set budget.
· Billing activities.

Education/Experience:
- An earned Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution is required, Masters preferred. OR
- Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 245 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination. In addition, the individual must have laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by ABHES, the CAHEA, or another organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
- There are exceptions to these regulations for staff performing high-complexity testing prior to April 24, 1995*. In these cases consult the CLIA regulations and have the medical director of the laboratory evaluate the staff member.
*The CLIA-88 regulations include exceptions for grandfathered individuals under regulations 42CFR493, 1489 and 1491
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Light lifting of under 25 pounds on an infrequent basis.
2. General office environment Monday through Friday.

4. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
