SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. We strive to provide success paths toward mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training and employment with a living wage, affordable housing, and ultimately living independently and confidently. SOME (So Others Might Eat) offers comprehensive treatment options that empower men and women to break the bonds of addiction, reunite with their families, and rejoin their communities.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking (2) part-time Residential Assistants for Exodus/Maya Angelou House in West Virginia.

Position Description: The Residential Assistant will provide monitoring and oversight of residential/transitional housing facilities and residents.

Required: HS Degree/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment

Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; AED; Food Handler's License; Crisis Intervention (Training); Driver's License

Schedule: Mondays & Wednesday, 3pm - 10pm; Sundays, 6:30am - 12:30pm (20 hours per week)

  • Demonstrates professionalism and maintains confidentiality while working with sensitive issues

Program Operations/Expectations:

  • Perform room checks and hourly house walk-throughs

  • Ensure house chores are completed

  • Assist residents in preparing meals, as needed

  • Monitor resident compliance with rules and regulations

  • Provide documentation and maintain communication logs

  • Respond to crisis situations or medical emergencies and report to management and on-call staff

  • Monitor resident self-medication during shift

  • Provide supervision of the facility and residents during assigned shift; maintain safety and security of facility

  • Provide assistance to residents for daily living activities
