Overview
The Ultrasound Technologist I performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by the attending radiologist while monitoring and maintaining patient safety. Assists radiologists with procedures maintaining strict sterile technique. Evaluates image quality and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Performs routine quality control on the ultrasound machines.
Responsibilities
Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations with confidence and competence. Presents complete, high quality examinations to radiologists for interpretations. Welcomes constructive criticism and feedback from radiologist, as needed.
Competently assists physicians during interventional procedures following strict sterile technique.
Obtains pertinent patient history. Reviews physician orders and records pertinent information.
Evaluates image quality and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Prepares studies for interpretation by the radiologist.
Performs routine quality control on ultrasound equipment, troubleshoots malfunctions and arranges for service as needed.
Monitors and maintains essential patient care and safety during procedures; applies safety principles as identified by established policy. Provides safe patient transport and handling. Appropriately triages patients.
Maintains order and cleanliness of rooms. Adheres to sterile technique guidelines.
Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with accrediting and regulating bodies
Assists in other areas such as reception duties and clerical responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited sonographer programExperience: 1-2 years experience performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations, preferrably in a similar healthcare setting.Licenses & Certifications: Valid ARDMS: Abdomen & OB/Gyn; RVT required within 3 years; BLS Required Skills & Knowledge: Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures and protocols; Commitment to excellence and high standards; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills; Ability to manage priorities and workflow; Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm; Acute attention to detail; Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions; Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy and discipline; Bilingual skills a plus; Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
