Job Description for
CUSTODIAN
SUPERVISOR: Maintenance Supervisor
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to keep assigned rooms, buildings, office space and school grounds clean and orderly. Perform minor repairs as required.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
TRAINING/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Current California Driver’s License.
2. Knowledge of common tools and their uses.
3. Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and equipment used in custodial and grounds work.
4. Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position.
5. Current 1st Aide and CPR Certificates preferred but not required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs tasks related to custodial, maintenance, or grounds upkeep.
2. Loads, unloads, lefts and moves heavy materials, supplies and equipment.
3. Cleans all chalk and dry erase boards, sweeps or vacuums, dusts classrooms, offices and assigned areas as scheduled.
4. Washes, scrubs and disinfects rest rooms and cleans all fixtures and drinking fountains in assigned areas.
5. Waxes floors, shampoos carpets, cleans doors and windows as scheduled.
6. Empties and cleans waste baskets and outdoor trash cans.
7. Maintains classroom and rest room supplies such as towels, soap, tissues, etc.
8. Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary.
9. Moves furniture or equipment as required for various activities as directed by
Administration or Maintenance Supervisor.
10. Reports safety, sanitary, fire hazards, damage to school property or major repairs needed promptly to his or her supervisor.
11. Keeps exterior of buildings and grounds neat and clean.
12. Assumes responsibility for general building security including doors, windows, and lights, except those left on for safety reasons.
13. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and chemical products.
14. May be required to apply pesticides and herbicides to grounds and garden areas for pest and weed control process (training required).
15. May install, maintain, and repair sprinklers and sprinkler system.
16. Operate vehicles and power driven equipment such as tractors, power lawnmowers, trimmer, edgers and similar types of mechanical equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
17. Bring to the attention of his/her supervisor any special problems that arise with individuals or groups of students.
18. Follow the school wide discipline plan using good judgment in handling behavior problems and refer as necessary.
19. Adhere to all applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county and the Sonora School District.
20. Administer 1st Aid to students in accordance with district policy.
21. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
22. Attends meeting and training as required by district.
23. Perform any other position related assignments as assigned.
DURING EMERGENCY SITUATIONS – ALL POSITIONS MAY BE REQUIRED
TO PERFORM DUTIES OTHERWISE NOT ASSIGNED.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $17.82 - $21.28 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
