About the Job :
Looking for a friendly, reliable, flexible, customer-service-minded person, with some food service experience. The role would primarily be in our Evanston restaurant (mostly to-go right now, the full restaurant is under construction), with food truck and catering event shifts possible.
Part-time work is available, evening and weekend availability is required. Ability to transition to full-time work if desired in future.

At Soul & Smoke, we treat barbecue with the reverence it deserves. We are consumed with the details : the meat-to-bone ratio on our ribs, the creaminess of our mac and cheese, and the combination of spices in Chef Carter’s signature sauce.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers and co-workers at all times.
- Prepare and open patio / restaurant space for lunch service and / or close space after dinner service.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, double-check orders from the kitchen before giving them to customers.
- Communicate and coordinate with customers, kitchen, and colleagues effectively.
- Ensure customer satisfaction and provide professional customer support.
- Acknowledge and resolve any customer issues and complaints.
- Keep up with the side work, including cleaning tables and filling sauce cups.
- Gain knowledge of all our products and services with the ability to answer questions accurately.
- Provide customer and other feedback to the Soul & Smoke team.
REQUIREMENTS :
- Ability to stay calm and respectful under stress and when customers are upset.
- Able to walk / stand for most of the shift.
- Experience working with customer support.
- Quick problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to multitask and keep organized.
- Ability to work in a team with different personalities.
- Prior food experience and knowledge are preferred.
- A driver's license is preferred.
- Evening and weekend availability.
- Valid food handler and BASSET alcohol service certificates required within 30 days of starting employment.
Job Details :
- JOB TYPE : Part-time, hourly position.
- PAY : $19-22 per hour, which includes pooled revenue share of $4-6 per hour, base hourly rate starting at $15.
- BENEFITS : Staff meals, plus dining and catering discounts. Accrued paid leave.
