The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) owns and operates public seaport and intermodal facilities in Charleston, Dillon, Georgetown, and Greer. Our 950 employees handle cargo, operate and maintain cargo handling equipment, manage port facilities and operations, and support the port system in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, performs professional-level human resources work. Acts as a resource for employees and leaders regarding recruitment, employee relations, benefits, policies, and assisting with systems, etc.
Essential Job Responsibilities
• Facilitates and/or supports all aspects of the talent acquisition process for internal and external candidates to include recruitment, onboarding, and orientation.
• Implements efficient and effective recruiting methods and strategies based on the available role, industry standards, and the needs of the organization.
• Processes new hires in HRIS, ensuring accurate setup of profiles and conducts audits to maintain the integrity of data.
• Attends and participates in job fairs and recruiting sessions.
• Responsible for tracking of key recruitment metrics to identify and resolve issues affecting procedures and quality of hires.
• Assists with the administration of insurance and retirement benefits, leave programs, and wellness programs.
• Participates in and leads cross-functional Human Resources projects.
• Ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws as well as regulations from other applicable agencies, notifies managers of potential issues, and proposes corrective action.
• Continuously finds ways to make processes more effective and efficient.
• Analyzes and presents data and summarizes conclusions for management.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and a minimum of 3 years of experience, or Master’s degree in Human Resources with a minimum of 2 years experience, or a similar combination of experience and education.
• A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required to operate a Ports Authority-owned licensed motor vehicle.
Skills and Abilities
• Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office products (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Must have utmost discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
• Must have attention to detail, follow through, and take ownership of work.
• Must be able to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Must be able to multitask.
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including writing and speaking).
• Must be an excellent team player.
Preferred Qualifications
• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
• Relevant experience working with an HRIS
• Experience with administering leave programs (FMLA, ADA, LTD, Military, etc.)
• Experience with insurance and retirement benefits through SC Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time and occasionally stand.
• Must be able to travel off-site when needed.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Vision is required to analyze and process various forms and documents utilized within the framework of performing assigned tasks.
• Hearing is required to adequately communicate with employees, vendors, etc.
• Ability to verbally communicate clearly with employees, vendors, etc.
• Ability to operate a computer keyboard and view a computer monitor screen.
• Must be able to speak in front of and/or perform training for a group of employees.
