What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crisis Counselor position at South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority?
The Crisis Counselor will exhibit Professional Responsibilities that include the ability to:
- Work with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, basic support, individual and group counseling, public education, and referral.
- Provided one-on-one counseling session (up to 6) to individuals in need of ore crisis counseling
- Provide grief and loss counseling to survivors when necessary.
- Engage with survivors to establish rapport, identify those who are risk for trauma, and develop a plan to help survivors cope.
- Provide information to families and other support networks.
- Provide intervention strategies to survivors and their families to mitigate of reduce psychological trauma and contribute to resilience.
- Provide psycho-educational training for community and volunteer organizations regarding skills to cope with crisis.
- Assess individuals who may require traditional mental health or substance use treatment for referral purposes.
- When appropriate may travel door-to-door, on a regular basis and upon special request, throughout assigned neighborhoods to provide in-home and community level support.
- Work with assigned dyad partner (Outreach Worker/Resource Linkage Coordinator) to actively engage with survivors to assess survivors’ needs and circumstances.
- Regularly enters data related to dyad’s outreach activities.
- Conduct debriefing and support services to volunteers, caregivers, and other responders.
- Provide support services to Outreach Workers/Linkage Coordinators if/when needed.
- Communicate survivors and communities’ recovery issues to teams. Provide presentations to community groups on disaster relations, coping skills, stress management and the CCP.
- Assess crisis and respond with appropriate interventions/referrals.
- Check in with Team Lead and/or Program Manager at assigned intervals while out of the office.
- Attend daily team meetings on work days.
- Complete all paperwork daily.
- Compiles and maintains samples of presentations, handouts, etc. in a central location.
- Represents program in the community and networks with other agencies and partners to ensure needs of survivors are met.
- Conducts in-person presentations to community groups on disaster reactions, coping skills, stress management, and information about the CCP.
