The South Dakota Department of Education is driven with a vision for all students to leave the K-12 education system college, career, and life ready. The Office of Grants Management oversees the fiscal compliance requirements and the distribution of funds for federal education programs. We are looking for a motivated individual that can work independently and as a member of a team to help ensure that high quality education programs are implemented, while balancing the need to meet all fiscal compliance requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- reviewing grant applications;
- determining allowable program activities;
- monitoring subrecipients grant expenditures; and
- developing and providing technical assistance to school administrators.
We will provide training to successful applicants on specific federal education grant requirements.
This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Education - Division of Finance Management, Office of Grants Management. For more information on the Department of Education, please visit https://doe.sd.gov/.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, or a related field; and experience administering federal grant programs.
Knowledge of:
- laws and regulations governing the fiscal requirements of federal education programs;
- requirements associated with the expenditure of federal funds;
- school district or government accounting and budgeting practices;
- techniques for monitoring grant subrecipient expenditures and reviewing Single Audit Reports.
Skill to:
- analyze fiscal information;
- interpret federal laws and regulations;
- be attentive to details.
Ability to:
- ensure federal grant subrecipients comply with the fiscal requirements of federal grant programs;
- perform detailed calculations using Excel spreadsheets;
- explain complex federal program fiscal requirements to Department and school district staff;
- develop training and technical assistance for grant subrecipients;
- deal tactfully and effectively with school district administrators and the public;
- travel on a limited basis.
