Job Title: Start-up Coordinator
Accountable to: Director of Student Services
Department: Student Services
FLSA Status: Full-Time Exempt
Salary: $47,000-$58,000
Location: Fargo Office
Employees under their Direct Supervision: None.
Standard Office Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and other times to reach agency goals or job duties.

Decision Making Authority: Responsible for best interests of the South East Education Cooperative (SEEC) given what has been budgeted and carefully utilizes funding to achieve expected goals. Approval required from Director of Student Services (or assigned designee) on specific matters as outlined in policies and procedures.

Position Overview:

The Start-up Coordinator offers business development assistance to potential child care entrepreneurs to start and grow sustainable child care businesses. They partner with communities to develop local solutions to address child care shortages. The Coordinator also provides individualized assistance to existing early childhood providers on improving day to day business operations. Responsible to evaluate program ratings against appropriate sections of Standards 1-5 of the AdvancED Accreditation “self-review” standards. Implements cohesive actions to improve self-ratings.

Position Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

A critical part of every position is achieving the goals set for the position while delivering high levels of satisfaction to internal and external customers. This is realized by building positive internal individual and team relationships, positive relationships with external partners and exhibiting behaviors that contribute to the success of short and long-term goals of the agency. These behaviors include a focus on timely completion and high quality of work (with or without supervision) while following all legal, compliance, departmental, documentation, safety, timelines, program and other standards per company policies and procedures.

Position requires close collaboration with the Director of Student Services, Student Services Team, early childhood stakeholders, other Regional Education Associations, SEEC Employees along with Community and Funding Agencies.

Performance is equally a function of goal attainment; timely and accurate completion of assignments; building positive internal and external relationships; and planning, communicating and coordinating work to avoid last minute confusion and adherence legal/compliance guidelines and policies/procedures.

Significant Job Duties

90% Technical Assistance and Start-up Support:

  • Provide coaching, consultation, and technical assistance to existing and potential early childhood service providers on business development and operations.
  • Log and track assistance through designated data systems.
  • Work directly with provider accounting and business staff regarding licensing requirements
  • Provide recommendations and guidance on staffing and policies.
  • Work with communities to assess child care needs, provide resources, and assist with start-up efforts.
  • Collaborate with other CCA staff to communicate about areas of improvement and professional development needs based on observation data.
  • Work with center and provider directors or lead staff on their caseload to develop SMARTE goals and supports to make progress and achieve goals. Provide feedback, time for reflection, and promote goal setting.
  • Support site development of data-based decision-making skills by working with providers to understand current student and environmental assessment practices and needs to offer recommendations on data collection and progress monitoring.
  • Consult with center staff on early childhood instruction, assessment and intervention, including the ability to model, observe and provide corrective feedback, ask questions to solve challenges, exercise sound judgment, and communicate effectively with individuals, teams and directors

5% Sustain Long Term Viability and Growth

  • In conjunction with the Director of Student Services, review the current programs and identify potential opportunities that align to the agency's strategic goals.

5% Professional Development

  • Build and extend own knowledge through a variety of professional development activities including but not limited to webinars, training classes, special certifications and by engaging in other professional development activities.

Essential Skills, Experience and Expertise:

  • ND Growing Futures Career Pathwaysdesignation of Category G or higher:Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development –OR– Associates degree or higher in related field with at least 12 semester credits of Early Childhood Education or Child Development –OR– Associates degree or higher in non-related field with at least 18 semester credits of Early Childhood Education or Child Development –OR– Bachelor degree in Human Service (requires additional preparation to qualify for early childhood care and education positions)Experience: A minimum of (10) contact hours job shadowing an endorsed Coach with teachers and administrators in an early childhood setting.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience facilitating adult learners through training, coaching or providing staff supervision, management, and implementing organizational policies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for effectively communicating and problem-solving with the early childhood field.
  • Strong capacity to be flexible and adaptable to varied circumstances, paired with a conscientious commitment to fidelity; strong self-initiative and independent follow-through
  • Knowledge of and experience in working within early childhood settings, paired with a desire for continued professional development for ongoing learning
  • Confidentially: Requires proper protection, handling, storage and disposal of confidential and personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Math Skills: Adept at addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, fractions and basic descriptive statistics.
  • Financial Management and Analysis: Able to develop, track, analyze and explain budgets, expenses and variances.
  • Presentations / Speaking skills: Can develop and deliver effective small and large group presentations to a variety of clients and stakeholders.
  • Reading and Writing Skills: College Level: Requires analysis, synthesis and evaluation skills in a variety of areas per Bloom’s taxonomy.
  • Driver’s License: Required.
  • Use of software and office equipment: Ability to use smart phones and tablets, cloud based and internet apps, standard office equipment (copier, fax etc), computers, Microsoft office, QuickBooks, other specialized software and the internet. Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint to create and alter documentations, forms, presentations and graphs. Able to retrieve / store documents on computer (desktop/laptop), shared site or on cloud based service.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Interaction levels with others: Requires high levels of interactions with others internal and external to the agency.
  • Position requires travel within the North Dakota and beyond to fulfill job goals.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines while maintaining professional demeanor.
  • Alternative schedules and overtime expectations are frequent.
  • Sit / Stand / Walk / Stoop: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.
  • Use of Phone/ Computer /Software / Office Equipment: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.
  • Climb / Pull / Lift: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined. Move and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Temperatures ranges for work environment: Mostly a typical office environment with temperatures of 60-85°F, but can experience temperatures from -40 °F to 110°F when performing tasks outside of office.
  • Noise: Noise levels reflect typical office environment and may require hearing protection when using certain equipment or entering certain areas.
  • Hazardous Conditions or Chemicals Exposure: Exposure to small quantities of hazardous chemicals found in office supplies such as toner, glues, etc.

Special Position Requirements

  • Travel: Up to 50% of travel within regional area to conduct site observations and coaching sessions. Some overnight travel on occasion for visits or professional development.
  • Clothing: Professional attire that creates positive impression on staff, clients, stakeholders, Board Members and funding or partner organizations.
