Job Summary
This position performs basic phlebotomist duties including venipunctures and capillary sticks following universal precaution protocol. The position also performs computer and clerical functions to order and receive laboratory data. Duties require interaction with different patient age groups.
Essential Functions
- Performs venipunctures and capillary sticks following Universal Precaution protocols; collects blood samples efficiently and with respect for the patient
- Performs computer and clerical functions to accurately collect laboratory information; utilizes positive patient identification system and labeling protocols as indicated
- Receives and processes samples in the LIS with accuracy
- Distributes samples to lab departments for testing
- Completes outpatient lab order entry
- Cross-trained at a minimum of 2 Outpatient lab locations and able to function independently
- Stocks adequate supplies
- Answers telephones and distributes/faxes reports
- Maintains current CPR certification
- Agrees to preceptor guidelines for MLS program clinical rotations and new employee training
- Thirty (30) hours documented preceptor training on an annual basis
- Duties require interaction with patients of various age groups, social and economic backgrounds
- Must be proficient in phlebotomy for all ages, newborn through geriatric
- Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission and abide by the Values of the organization
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Minimum of 1 year Clinical laboratory or phlebotomy experience in the past 5 years required
- Minimum of 6 months Computer Skills preferred
Salary : $33,000 - $41,800
