Position Summary
Analyze and present specifications for issuing and awarding procurement bids regarding purchasing materials, products, and services for Homebuilding at SLC Homes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Analyze market and delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability.
- Control purchasing department budgets.
- Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate activities engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies.
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials.
- Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise costs.
- Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers.
- Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
- Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.
- Administer on-line purchasing systems.
- Arrange for disposal of surplus materials.
- Locate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them in order to determine product availability and terms of sales.
- Maintain records of goods ordered and received.
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
- Prepare bid awards requiring board approval.
- Represent companies in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers.
Education and Experience
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required, Bachelor's degree, preferred.
- Experience: Three years of Construction Purchasing required.
- Advanced Proficiency in Excel
- Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
- Strongly developed written and verbal communications skills, a persuasive, credible and polished communicator.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience analyzing and proposing purchasing bids.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and production methods.
- Experience in doing take-offs, estimating, cost type management, budget analysis, starts, and a general understanding of residential home building and codes.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Ability to take initiative and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within an organization.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that create credibility and trust
- Ability to build and maintain relations.
