Southern Research Talent Assistant – part-time/temporary
Founded in Birmingham in 1941, Southern Research is a non-profit scientific research organization that employs 250 scientists and professional staff. In its 80-year legacy of moving science, the organization has helped shape modern cancer treatment practices, including developing seven FDA-approved cancer drugs and testing more than half of active chemotherapies in the United States. Southern Research has conducted more than $30 million in coronavirus research over the past two years, including collaborations on a COVID-19 vaccine currently in clinical trials, conducting thousands of PCR tests and refining the underlying chemistry of critical treatments. The organization is the highest NIH-funded non-academic research center in Alabama and has a $150 million annual economic impact.

As Southern Research invests in new business lines and grows its core scientific capabilities, the Southern Research Talent Assistant will assist the organization’s Human Resources department in talent recruitment efforts and job description review.
We are seeking an inquisitive and energetic person to support our HR team. As a part of the hiring process, this position will assist in the use of different channels to search for potential candidates, conduct outreach to candidates and build talent pipelines for existing and future employment needs. The successful results of your work will assist us in filling our open vacancies with the best and brightest talent.
Additionally, this position will support the job description management process by reviewing and editing job descriptions for a variety of existing and newly created positions. The successful results of your work will assist us in reviewing and updating all components of various job descriptions to account for variations in areas of responsibility, changes in minimum job requirements, and inconsistencies across like jobs.
To fill this position, SR is looking for an energetic and nimble executer who thinks critically, effectively collaborates with the HR team to attract and retain top talent and has demonstrated a commitment to talent cultivation and recruitment. If you have strong administration skills, know how to source candidates via social media, and enjoy learning how to craft impactful job descriptions, we want to meet you.
Requirements
  • Some college required, BA/BS in Human Resources Management or relevant field, preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience.
  • Hands-on experience with social media networks and other talent sourcing strategies, desired.

  • Outstanding time-management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and strong organizational skills.

Position is part-time temporary (up to 20 hours per week) with flexible hours
