Job Description:
The Tony-award winning UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a professional theatre company in residence at Southern Utah University, is accepting applications for Production Staff for the 2023 season. The Utah Shakespeare Festival produces a seven-show repertory season and three Greenshows across four venues in the summer/fall of each year. Position details below.
Contract dates vary by position. Most build contracts begin April/May and end June/July. Run contracts Begin in May/June and end September/October. Please check dates in specific job descriptions.
- Assistant Technical Director: Contracts start April 30th and end in July 1st.
- Early-build Scenic Carpenter: Contracts start January or March and end late June 24 or Mid July (depending on theatre assignment).
- Scenic Carpenter: Contracts start Late April and end late June early or Mid July (depending on theatre assignment).
- Junior Carpenter/Stage Crew: Contracts begin late May/early June and run through early September/mid-October.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assistant Technical Director: Assist the Technical Director with supervising construction and load-in of scenery for assigned productions. Participates in the construction of scenic elements as needed. Completes shop improvement and organization projects as assigned. May provide technical drawings for construction.
- Early-build Scenic Carpenter: Construct and load-in all scenic elements for assigned productions. Completes shop improvement and organization projects as assigned.
- Scenic Carpenter: Constructs and loads-in all scenic set elements for assigned productions. Completes shop improvement and organization projects as assigned.
- Junior Carpenter/Stage Crew: Constructs and loads-in all scenic set elements for assigned productions. Responsible for running, storage, and maintenance of scenery for assigned productions.
Education and Experience Requirements:
All positions: Intermediate and advanced experience in proper and safe use of typical shop tools and equipment, wood and steel construction techniques or other related technical theater fields. Knowledge of safe operations of all tools and equipment used in typical theatrical construction and installation for wood and steel (personnel lifts, linesets, etc.) Must be able to carry 50 lbs. for 50 feet unassisted. Must be able to use ladders as a part of daily tasks.
Assistant Technical Director: Experience in leading crews required. Knowledge of safe rigging practices, AutoCAD, automation, or rotating repertory experience are a plus.
