What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Technician position at Southwest Research Institute?
Job Description:
Assist in build and operation of chemical processes. Clean area and maintain parts/equipment inventories. Create requisitions for PM's. Help construct and operate chemical pilot plant processes using pipe, tubing, AC/DC powered equipment. Assist in operating complex chemical and petroleum processes at pilot (small) scale. maintain equipment/vehicles, install/remove insulation, deliver packages, assist with welding, cutting, wiring installation, drawings. Document operation data in logbook and communicate to other shifts. Perform analytical testing using gas chromatograph. Create and manage chemical and equipment inventory.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- HS Diploma or equivalent required
- Hands on experience with mechanical and electrical systems.
- Knows how to work with several hand tools and power tools
- Experience with chemicals or chemical processes such as distillation is a plus
- Experience troubleshooting and problem solving is also a plus
- Computer experience with Excel and Word
- Shift work 24/7 will be required
Physical requirement:
- Working in a plant, lab or highbay will require standing, walking up/down stairs and ladders up to 20 feet and working outdoor weather
- Work sites are in several places on 15 acres of propriety may have to walk between work sites
- MVR is required
- May be trained for forklift and or golf cart
Dress Code: Collared shirt & jeans
Monday - Friday 8 am - 5pm may come early or stay late
Special instruction:
- Candidates will be utilized to fill periods of work increases for a 40/hr week. Some weeks maybe lower depending on the work load.
- 24/7 shift work will be required at some point
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
