The Work You'll Do:

Do you understand Life Statutory and GAAP financial reporting so well that you think you could write a book about it?  Is a task that seems daunting to even the most seasoned professional something that you truly enjoy?  Are you looking for the next great career move, one that will utilize your reporting and accounting experience along with your outgoing personality and acumen for teaching people things?  This might be the role that you didn’t know you were missing!  Sovos has recently expanded our service offerings to include world-class Life Statutory and GAAP financial trainings.  You will be responsible for teaching super technical material on financial statements and reporting obligations to some of the world’s most respected life insurance companies.  It is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to use your depth of experience in a way that will directly interface with and impact individuals.  This role does require a fair amount of domestic travel and a true desire to get up in front of large groups of people – so if travel or talking to people is not your thing, then this might not be the best fit.  If you’re still intrigued, read on….

More specifically you will:

  • Develop new training content

-  GAAP/Stat profit models for Universal Life, Long-Term Care and Fixed/Variable Annuity products

-  Product accounting and reporting for these products

-  Utilization of reinsurance for these products

 

  • Review existing course materials and update to reflect current trends, including:

-  Actuarial Concepts for Non-Actuaries course

-  Life Reinsurance course

-  Assess the efficacy of developing levels of product accounting courses (Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced)

  • Develop and deliver content for web-based training

-  Newly developed courses above

-  Existing courses currently unavailable for web-based training, principally getting these courses into an “on demand” format

  • Achieve consistency in the storage and management of the content library
  • Execute Instructor role as needed; Instructor responsibilities may increase over time
  • Perform other projects/tasks as needed, including: coordinate assignments for textbook/material updates, work with Coordinators and Marketing, etc.

 

What We Need From You:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in life insurance industry
  • Life Statutory and GAAP financial reporting experience
  • Actuarial and/or life pricing experience
  • Experience with profitability patterns for contemporary life and annuity products (GAAP and Statutory)
  • Experience with life reserving methodologies, specifically principle-based reserving
  • Experience with equity-indexed products, XXX/AXXX reinsurance, VA product guarantees and related reinsurance and PBR for fixed annuities and long-term care
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Accuracy, thoroughness, and strong attention to detail
  • Results oriented, self-motivated team player with the ability to take initiative
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office suite of products with advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently – about 30% of the time
  • Due to federal contracts that we have – successful applicants must have the willingness and ability to pass a background check and drug screening
