Performance Test Engineer

Location: 100% Remote

Years’ Experience: 7 years

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or technical related fields

Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Work Authorization: Must be a United States Citizen

Key Skills:

• Extensive experience with Jmeter Remote Testing or other open-source test tools
• Experience with performance testing, test cases, test data and test scripts
• AWS Cloud experience with containers or instances
• Public Sector IT exposure a plus

Responsibilities

• Provide support for test readiness reviews, formal system verification of the requirements.
• Conduct system performance testing to ensure system reliability, capacity, and scalability.
• Work with Performance Engineers to understand workload models for each system and gather requirements.
• Work with functional testers and developers to understand system features and functionality.
• Create performance test plans and scenarios with sufficient coverage to verify requirements.
• Capture https traffic using open-source tools like Fiddler and Charles Proxy and correlate requests during script development.
• Develop test scripts in Jmeter to meet the objectives of the performance test plan.
• Enhance test scripts using Java and other technologies to achieve realistic simulation of user behavior based on planned scenarios (e.g., authentication method, nominal paths, input data, think time, etc.).
• Calibrate test scripts to ensure stable load generation and minimal errors such that test runs can achieve the expected number of concurrent users.
• Confirm validity of each test run based on error, actual throughput, actual transactions committed, transaction types, etc.
• Collect and analyze test metrics and log data to identify performance bottlenecks.
• Analyze root causes of performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Open Jira tickets for performance issues and provide sufficient evidence and metrics describing the problem.
• Support Development teams in troubleshooting issues and verifying the benefits of proposed fixes.
• Generate test summary reports for management review.
• Suggest new tools and techniques to improve testing efficiency; develop utilities to streamline test preparation tasks, such as test data provisioning and staging.
• Provide support in project design, development, and deployment activities as needed.

Qualifications

• 7 years of IT experience
• 4 years of working as a performance tester or performance engineering roles
• Ability to tackle problems independently, analyze a diverse body of information, close knowledge gaps through research, formulate a troubleshooting plan.
• Experience in performance test scripting using JMeter and other open-source tools.
• Experience with Linux scripting language.
• Knowledge of test automation and other functional or quality related tools.
• Advanced handling in SQL, software architecture, proven experience working with Application Performance Management (APM), such as New Relic, AppDynamics or similar.
• Experience with Continuous Integration with Performance Testing.
• Minimum of 4 years programming in any language.
• Strong grasp of the End-to-End performance test process and know how and when to engage different teams such as DBAs, Developers or System Administrators.
• High energy: ability to manage time in a dynamic environment
• Excellent communication, written and verbal skills with ability to present thoughts and recommendations in a clear and logical manner
• Should be a team-player, quick learning, proactive and a positive attitude.
