Here’s what you will do as a Senior Protection and Controls Engineer:

  • Providing electrical design leadership for a variety of projects
  • Performing engineering design, including power system infrastructure for utility substations, industrial plants and distribution systems
  • Mentoring junior personnel, including engineers and designers
  • Providing technical knowledge and team support with regards to substation and Protection and Control design
  • Oversee electrical studies, such as short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, and grounding.
  • Oversee deliverables such as single line diagrams, three line diagrams, electrical schematics, electrical load lists, equipment layouts, grounding layouts, wiring diagrams, 3D models, and construction work packages.
  • Reviewing project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation
  • Providing estimates for engineering work and manpower plans
  • Performing engineering and capital cost estimates of various accuracies
  • Providing field support, as required, to construction management and site teams
  • Provide excellent customer service to multiple utility and industrial clients
  • Ability to take initiative and self-manage
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills
  • Thrive in a team-oriented environment and work with others to see projects through to completion

Do you have the Spark? Here’s what we are looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in utilities, processing, power generation, or mining
  • Graduate of an accredited Electrical Engineering program. P. Eng or PE is required with current registration
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code. Familiarity with international standards is advantageous
  • Experience in Protection and Control design
  • Proficiency with ETAP or similar software
  • Experience in the design of 120/208VAC, 480VAC, and 600VAC systems
  • Experience in the design of medium voltage (4.16kV to 25kV) systems
  • Experience in the design of high voltage (138kV to 240kV) systems
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (a copy of a valid work permit may be required)
  • Able to work with a variety of personality types
  • Aptitude to learn quickly
  • Thrive in a flexible, fast paced and dynamic organization
  • Positive attitude and team work spirit
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills and self-initiative
  • Eager to help and support others in their work
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Clearance on a security background check (criminal record check)
  • Completion of medical (to access certain client sites)
  • Class 5 driver’s license including clean driving record
