Pastry Baker

Hello Friend! Sparrow Bakery is a busy, medium-sized, regional, wholesale and retail bakery specializing in hand laminated croissants and crave-worthy café foods. We are searching for a FT (4 days / week), PM Pastry Baker to add to our team of Production Bakers at our wholesale production facility in Bend at 2783 NW Lolo Dr. Cover letter highly encouraged!

At Sparrow, we consider ourselves a “Teaching Company” – if you have relevant experience in pastry or bread baking, the work in this company will suit you well, teach and challenge you; and we are willing to pay top wages for your skill and labor. If you do not have professional baking experience we are also happy to discuss bringing you on in a learning capacity – make a living being paid to learn to bake!

• $18.50 for apprentice baker (no professional baking exp)
• $19.50 for 1 to 2 years professional baking experience
• $20-$20 for 3 to 3 years professional baking experience
• Plus $600 sign-on bonus regardless of experience level (half paid upon hire, half paid at 90 days)

The hours for this position are approximately 4pm-1am (think bartending hours). So while it’s no 9-5, our pastry bakers generally find this schedule sustainable and for some it works very well with an active Bend lifestyle: if you desire to capitalize upon your personal time during daylight hours this shift work may be perfect for you! FT with Sparrow is 4 days a week, so with 3 days off each week; hardworking bakers are able to relax, rest, and make sure their personal life is in balance so they can continue to work those evening hours. Bakers must be able to work at least one weekend day; as is somewhat standard in food service.

Pastry Baking will help you develop or hone these specific skills: fine motor skills (all baking positions will require a lot of working with your hands, very few buttons to push at this bakery!), an attention to detail and aesthetic, a penchant for consistency and incremental improvements over time, as well as working with urgency and efficiency. Pastry baking can be satisfying work because at the end of each shift you will have an opus of products that you produced, and both the satisfaction in seeing those physical beauties, along with witnessing the customers’ enjoyment of your work, can cultivate a real feeling of fulfillment in our bakers. You will be primarily responsible for shaping and baking our famous laminated dough products for our wholesale accounts and customers - if you are interested in learning how to make ocean rolls THIS is the job for you! Last year at our production facility our pastry bakers shaped over 100,000 ocean rolls!! Pride of purpose can be found in this position, to be sure :)
