General Purpose of Job:
The Nurse Manager of the ICU/Medical Surgical department is a Registered Nurseassuming administrative, clinical, quality, safety, and financial responsibilities for the department.
Essential Duties:

- Demonstrates the ability to communicate the hospital's mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff.
- Provides leadership and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, and outcome achievement
- Ensures coordination and development of new systems and methods to optimize the quality of patient care provided.
- Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage change, as well as help others do the same.
- Collaborates with other departments to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and patient care delivery.
- Demonstrates fiscal accountability for department resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to department functions.
- Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of objectives, policies, and operational plans for the Patient Services Department
- Assists in review and evaluation of staffing budget needs as they relate to the operational plan.
- Assists in maintaining a central work schedule for the ICU Medical Surgical department and is accountable for adjusting staffing needs based on acuity/census.
- Works with clinical managers to maintain continuity of patient care.
- Participates in discharge planning and patient education programs as outlined by Hospital procedure.
- Maintains current knowledge of new developments in the Nursing profession and in Nursing education.
- Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
- Utilizes appropriate resources within the institution to provide consultation, education, technical, or informational services as needed for self, staff, and patients.
- Participates in resolution of conflict and perceived problems. Completes and or submits any documentation required in a timely fashion.
- Isresponsible for the department's operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards
- Manages the Patient Services Department to ensure quality services and promote positive employeerelations.
General Requirements | * Current RN License for the State of Michigan * Current ACLS and BLS certifications |
Work Experience | * Minimum five years progressively responsible nursing experience. |
Education | * Graduation from an accredited nursing program. * BSN |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills | * Demonstrated leadership skills. * Wide range of experience and knowledge concerning all nursing departments and procedures. * Ability to analyze numbers. * Excellent communication skills. * Aptitude for handling discrepancies with management and coworkers. * Must be able to organize multiple major issues at one time. * Must be able to work with several management level persons at the same time and bring issues to a successful conclusion in a reasonable period of time. * Must have time management skills. |
