What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supply Chain Specialist / Buyer position at Spartanburg Steel Products?

Primary Objectives:
  • Lead, influence, and set strategy for sourcing of Purchase Components, Outside Services, and other commodities as needed.
  • Protect SSP interests & financial concerns by managing the supply base to ensure all suppliers and contractors are following SSP specifications, interests, and requirements.
  • Ensure fair and ethical treatment of all parties involved.
  • Act as an intermediary between SSP departments, company, and subcontractors.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Process all necessary paperwork for RFQ, sourcing process, and TCO. Ensuring all requirements, specs, dates, terms, etc. are met.
  • Work cross-functionally with inside functional departments and ensure clear directions for quoting process.
  • Analyze RFQs, process, and timing with various departments involved, ensuring compliance.
  • Submit appropriate information for review with internal and external customers.
  • Negotiate costs savings and cost avoidance annually and as need.
  • Act as a liaison between SSP & subcontractor on commercial issues.
  • Serve as escalation point in supply chain and supplier relationship management.
  • Research new suppliers, equipment, concepts, technology.
  • Develop Commodity Strategy.
  • Maintain active involvement with payment process with subcontractors.
  • Issue PO’s and other purchasing correspondence.
  • Develop and maintain all RFQ / PO / commercial information.
  • Work with customers as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned and changed as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Previous work experience in engineering, program mgmt., purchasing, or supplier development.
  • Technical skills as need for various area: Engineering / Tooling/Program Management / Equipment / Quality functions.
  • Ability to deal with commercial and program issues on commodities sourced.
  • Ability to interact at all levels within company.
  • Multi-tasking and time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Computer Literacy.
