Purpose Statement:
The job of Itinerant Special Education Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing
support to the instructional process by serving as an itinerant teacher with specific
responsibility for instructing students within the classroom and other assigned areas;
developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within
established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff,
and administrators in addressing students’ needs; and responding to a wide range of
inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student
progress.


This job reports to the Director of Special Education


Essential Functions:
Communicates with a wide variety of individuals (e.g. Private/ Non-Profit Teachers, PV Staff,
Private/ Non-Profit Administrators, other staff, Parents, etc.) for the purpose of explaining
techniques and strategies to ensure student achievement, developing methods for
improvement and/or reinforcing ISP (Individual Service Plan) goals.
Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners for the purpose of providing an
opportunity for the observation of best practices.
Differentiates instruction for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials
that address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
Facilitates student learning for the purpose of achieving progress in reading, and/or math
through defined lesson plans.
Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined
course of study.
Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning
environment during specially designed instruction.
Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. staff, district, Individual Service Plans, METs, etc.)
for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. lesson plans, grades, attendance, anecdotal
records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated
requirements.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents,
administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or
direction.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform

multiple highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to
meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily
perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating
standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; presentation
skills; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions,
percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed
formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written
and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily
perform the functions of the job include: accounting/bookkeeping principles.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related
equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances and
environments; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate
equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of
individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem
solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may
require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific
ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
include: maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and
working with detailed information.


Responsibility:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized routines;
providing information and/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work
units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to
have some impact on the organization's services.


Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following
physical demands; some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. And significant fine finger
dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing. This job
is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.


Experience:
Job related experience is desired. Education: Bachelor's Degree in job-related area.
