Spectrum has an opportunity for a civilian Medical Assistant for Dermatology at the Family Health Center Fairfax, VA. We provide out-patient clinic services for enlisted and retired military personnel in association with Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital.
The Medical Assistant reports to the Dermatologist. The medical assistant assists the provider with patient care and creates an atmosphere that reflects the level of standards and care that patients can expect to receive from this Practice. To be successful in this position, the assistant must be cheerful, friendly, polite, tactful, and professional in appearance and manner at all times.
S/he will be able to communicate with the physician and patient and be mindful of patient confidentiality. S/he will be able to respond to patient’s needs and relay the provider’s instructions.
The successful medical assistant will be a team player, respectful of their co-workers, and will demonstrate proficiency in documenting in Electronic Health Record.
The MA will be responsible for assisting the physician with examination, education and treatment of patients. Includes obtaining history and chief complaint; assisting with select office based surgery procedures. Other responsibilities include patient education on treatment plans and medication, nursing procedures, such as suture removal, dressing changes, completion of pathology, lab requisition documents, EMR charting, photography and phone triage.
Essential Functions:
1. Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
2.Take patient vital signs as requested by provider.
3. Documentation in Electronic Health Record.
4. Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms and workstations.
5. Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit.
6. Prepares and supports patient and assists provider with procedures, to include suture removal, preparing for injections and laser procedures.
7. Assist provider with injectable procedures.
8. Remove sutures.
9. Ensure completion of forms and appropriate requisitions.
10. Set-up, clean, sterilize and inventory all medical equipment and instruments including procedure tray according to protocol.
11. Prepare pathology and lab specimens, with appropriate forms/requisitions, delivering to the laboratory department for processing.
12. Notify providers and patients of pathology and lab results as directed by the Dermatologist.
13. Schedule or re-schedule appointments with providers, specialists as necessary. Send appropriate records as necessary.
14. Work in compliance with OSHA, blood borne pathogen standards, and Infection Control protocol.
15. Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA standards.
16. Document and keep current appropriate records for maintenance programs.
17. Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, ensuring supply cabinets are well stocked with no outdated products.
18. Ensure liquid nitrogen supply is adequate for planned and unplanned procedures.
19. Maintains equipment logs and checklists as appropriate for the department.
