Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a Potential opportunity for an Ophthalmology Tech/Technologist supporting Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
Job Requirements:
- Degree/Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Experience: Possess two (2) years of experience within the past three years assisting with corneal refractive surgeries including PRK and LASIK procedures, patient selection, and care of corneal refractive surgery patients. Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from a practicing ophthalmologists, physicians or optometrists attesting to the HCW’s clinical skills. A minimum of one (1) of the letters must be from a physician supervisor. The other letters must be from either clinic or hospital administrators, or practicing physicians. Reference letters shall attest to the HCW’s communication skills and ability to relate to patients professionally as well as staff members. Reference letters must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference and must be written within the preceding two (2) years.

Core Duties:
- Perform other ophthalmic tests and measurements as directed by the physician.
- Administer vision therapy programs prescribed by the optometrist/ophthalmologist.
- Perform pre-op, surgical and post-op care of refractive surgery patients to include auto-refraction and auto keratometry, interpreting refraction with both automated and manual phoropters, basic ocular motility tests, pupil exam, ophthalmic photograph, fluorescein angiography, glare testing, wavefront testing, analysis, Goldman tonometry, pupillometry, excimer and femtosecond refractive lasers and assisting the surgeon during refractive surgery.
- Prepare the corneal refractive surgery suites and calibrate the lasers. Verify the proper working order of all refractive lasers and assist the surgeon in the corneal refractive surgery procedures (Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), Laser Assisted In situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) and Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE).
- Prepare refractive surgery procedures charts with patient information and test results.
- Perform data entry into AHLTA, CHCS and various outcome database software programs.
- Perform automated and subjective refractions using the Marco Epic system or manual phoropter.
- Direct the flow of patients: Obtain medical and personal data for patient’s conditions including ocular examination; Arrange for laboratory tests, ophthalmic photography, outpatient studies, patient admissions and surgery as requested by the physician. Alleviate patient and family concerns by explaining diagnostic procedures and referring specific questions to the provider.
- Screen walk-in patients, emergency patients and telephone calls from patients and referring physicians.
- Perform inspection and preparation of surgical instruments, materials and equipment to ensure that they are in-stock, clean/sterile and in proper working condition.
- Decontaminate, clean and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization by the hospitals Sterile Processing Department. Assist with minor office surgery and laser treatments. Scrub or circulate ophthalmic surgical procedures in the main operating room surgery as required.
- Perform inventory of assigned examination rooms to ensure adequate supplies are in stock. This shall be coordinated with the supply officer of the refractive surgery program to ensure all supply requests are met.
