Responsibilities
The position of Staff Accountant performs the daily activities required by the General Ledger Department including assisting in the monthly closing processes. The position provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts and preparing accurate and timely financial statements.
- Prepare reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts and performs various other general ledger maintenance
- Prepare general ledger journal entries with supporting analysis
- Prepare financial statements including the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow and trial balance
- Perform variance analysis by researching accounts, collaborating with cross functional teams to determine the cause of the variance
- Compare actual results to both plan and prior year and explain differences
- Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure all required reporting is timely and accurate; maintains proper records of reports, analysis and information
- Assist in special projects as required
- Cross-train with other members of General Ledger to ensure accurate backup and support for all functions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently or in a team environment
- Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy
- Ability to work under tight deadlines through a monthly closing process
- Strong verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to interact with all levels of management and staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel
- PeopleSoft experience preferred
- Retail accounting experience preferred
- Willingness to work additional hours when necessary to support and complete month end responsibilities
