SPIRE Credit Union continues to improve lives, serving members across Minnesota. We are seeking a Consumer Underwriter to join our busy team. This position is hybrid/remote.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for underwriting loans and to develop a depth of SPIREs products in order to recommend the appropriate products and services during conversations with members.
Underwrite loans for extension of credit to promote positive member relationships and to achieve the lending goals of the Credit Union.
Evaluates loan applications for maximum approval using SPIRE underwriting guidelines.
Evaluates loan applications for maximum additional approvals of credit and other SPIRE products.
Evaluates applications for potential opportunities to cross service SPIRE products and services.
Inform appropriate staff of underwriting decision, and/or pre approvals.
Perform the necessary file maintenance and file all pre approvals for future follow up.
Complete monthly review of open ended loans for credit worthiness.
Records all decisions appropriately within guidelines.
Provide support and input for employees when handling various member situations.
Offer the employees support, suggestions and solutions to problems that may arise with the lending process.
Provide support to the branch offices with the lending process, including loan closings, title work, documents, etc.
Provide back up support to the indirect funding process.
REQUIREMENTS
Several years consumer underwriting experience.
High School Degree or Equivalent
Knowledge of:
Consumer lending (auto, personal, recreational vehicles) and home equity.
Simple arithmetic and finance related mathematics (e.g., interest, time value of money, compounding).
Professional business grammar and correspondence.
Previous Loans PQ experience helpful.
Skill of identifying other opportunities for members to improve their financial situation while reviewing their documents.
Ability to:
Coordinate multiple and conflicting priorities to provide support to staff and complete projects in a timely manner.
Communicate and interact with a variety of people, to promote the Credit Union and build strong member relationships.
Assist in solving problems quickly and efficiently to support staff and provide service to our members.
Interpret and analyze information.
Develop professional relationships with members and co-workers.
