What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metals Mechanic position at Spirit AeroSystems?

Responsibilities
Perform basic metal fabrication such as:
1. Fabricate components using associated tasks including deburr, bending, routing, forming,
cutting, shearing, straightening, shrinking, bead, flare, flange, punching, countersinking,
tapping, chamfering, pressure and leak test, part mark or similar tasks.
2. Use hand, power tools & equipment to complete work assignment.
3. Validate quality of tool(s) prior to setup, during & after job completion.
4. Apply potting compound and sealer as required to complete the job.
5. Work from blueprints, drawings, templates, and check fixtures, form blocks and
written/verbal instructions.
6. Self inspection as required of performed task prior to next work sequence. Uses precision
measuring equipment (calipers, scales, etc.).
7. Rework and repair defective products as required.
8. Assist others in the execution of tasks as required.
9. As required layout parts and patterns to facilitate associated operations (shear, route, saw,
etc.)
10. Setup, adjust, maintain and operate all equipment.
11. Work may occasionally require soldering riveting.
12. Use basic and advanced shop math.
13. Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g.,
replacing machine filters, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic Total
Preventative Maintenance duties).
14. Routinely move product within shop-defined area, including across aisle, using shop
assigned equipment as required, and complete transactions necessary to move product to
the next operation.
15. Performs verification of dimensions of parts using both mechanical and electronic precision
measurement tools.
16. Perform inspection MVP, including first part review, of fabricated parts and assemblies.
17. Initiate and document any non-conforming condition.
18. Maintain required certifications and qualifications as needed. (e.g. SLS, BAC, Nadcap,
AS9100, crane, sealer, liquid nitrogen, vehicle ops)
19. Ensure compliance with applicable processes (e.g., FOD, Hazmat, OSHA, QMS)
20. Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training and
assisting employees of the same or lower classification level.
21. Able to capture, translate, validate or provide measurement data to meet engineering intent
and top-level requirements using engineering and model-based definition drawings.
Qualifications
- All applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks. Majority of new hires will be hired on 2nd shift.
