What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Legal Counsel position at Splunk?
Splunk is seeking motivated self-starters to help us lead the big data revolution and build one of the world’s iconic technology companies! Splunk is a recognized leader in harnessing the potential of big data. Splunk Legal is looking for a dynamic and hardworking recent law school graduate with a real passion for technology and the law to join the Splunk Legal team as an Assistant Legal Counsel.
As an Assistant Legal Counsel, you will be an integral part of our international legal team and collaborate with departments across Splunk. For two years you will receive training specific to in-house legal practices and will learn the legal aspects of running a technology company. You will gain hands-on legal experience and directly interact with a diverse set of functional teams within and outside of the legal department. During the two-year training period, you will rotate through at least three groups within Splunk Legal, including Corporate Legal, Commercial Legal, Legal Operations, Compliance, Employment, Product Legal, Data Privacy and Security, and Intellectual Property.
The position will be assigned an overall training manager for the extent of the training period. For each rotation within the training program, you will report to the corresponding department lead.

Responsibilities: I want to and can do that
- Collaborate with the legal team to facilitate Splunk’s present and future success in a dynamic legal department
- Gain direct experience in corporate legal projects, including corporate governance, quarterly financial reporting, and compliance with accounting and financial practices
- Assist with projects in legal operations, including building out tools and automation to increase transactional velocity and improve metrics
- Assist with compliance and employment law projects, both domestically and internationally
- Assist with intellectual property protection, product counseling, and data privacy issues and concerns
Requirements: I’ve already done that or have that!
- Currently enrolled in a JD program with anticipated graduation in summer of 2021
- Plan and prepare to sit for the first California Bar Examination in 2021
- Successfully completed the Splunk Summer Legal Intern Program
- Proven passion for the legal industry and technology

- Research laws, regulations and legal development in various jurisdictions that are applicable to Splunk, its business and customers
- Design and implement processes and procedures to support legal department programs and goals
- Draft and audit policies, notices, disclosures and regulatory- and legal-related documentation
- Assist with contract negotiations and drafting
- Assist with the development and delivery of various trainings across the company
- Broaden knowledge in a variety of substantive legal areas, including corporate, licensing, IP, product, data, privacy, data security and information governance, compliance & ethics, employment, commercial and other legal risks in the US and internationally
- Work with the Government Affairs group as needed on worldwide initiatives
