Spotts, Stevens and McCoy is actively recruiting for a Senior Electrical Designer with 10 years of experience to join our Electrical Engineering team. The Senior Electrical Designer must be self-motivated with strong communication skills and passion to apply your professional experience and knowledge in a positive environment where you will become a valuable team member. The Senior Designer will perform design, survey and drafting of power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm and telecommunication systems for Industrial, Commercial, Educational, Pharmaceutical and Research and Development Laboratory applications. Typical field assignments include on-site design services in client locations, gathering of existing site conditions and interfacing directly with the client or client’s engineering staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform field surveys, including sketches and data collection of existing electrical systems, and be able to document in an organized manner.
- Read and understand design drawings and technical specifications to support the preparation of project deliverables such as calculations, specifications, and engineering evaluations.
- Produce high quality engineering drawings for electric distribution systems under the guidance of senior electrical engineers.
- Execute designs following the electrical design criteria for the project, as well as defined design standards, guidelines, specifications, codes, and regulations.
- Produce designs and drawings for electrical systems, i.e. electrical equipment layout, single line, embedded conduit, cable tray, heat trace, interconnecting wiring, lighting and grounding drawings, motor control centers schematic diagrams, emergency power generation, UPS, photovoltaic, fire alarm, security, and CCTV systems.
- Evaluate and resolve problems by reviewing multiple sources of information and coordinating design criteria with other disciplines.
- Manage projects for budget and schedule.
- Must be able to interface with clients, the design team, and the contractors to complete projects from start to finish. The Senior Designer is instrumental in performing all project phases and is called upon to play a lead role in effectively communicating with peers, supervisors, vendors, consultants, clients and stakeholders.
Requirements
- 10 years of experience in electrical design.
- Strong computer skills. Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of all types of high, medium and low voltage electrical equipment; control systems and instrumentation design; and industry/regulatory codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NEMA, IEEE).
- Multidisciplinary design knowledge.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel to all project sites to perform site investigations and walk-downs in a wide variety of facility types, including high-voltage substations.
- Ability to manage tasks on multiple projects, keeping strong attention to detail.
