The Terminal Operator Trainee position is intended to provide a year of training for candidates with minimal work experience. Upon successful completion of the training, the trainee should have a good understanding of the required skills to perform all duties for an entry level Terminal Operator position. Conversion to a Terminal Operator role is not automatic, you will need to have gained the necessary skills and follow our hiring process within your assigned terminal when a position becomes vacant.
This position is on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Operations are performed in a maritime environment 24/7/365. A successful terminal operator trainee will receive on-the-job training and be eligible for promotion opportunities based on performance.

Qualified candidates for this role will have the following:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC
• Knowledge of basic math
• Mechanical aptitude
• Basic computer knowledge
• Valid driver's license
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Standing up to 75% of the day
• Lifting up to 75 lbs (i.e. steel parts, spouts)
• Carrying up to 50 lbs (i.e. oil, parts, tools)
• Pulling up to 75 lb. capacity (i.e. mooring lines)
• Extended climbing (i.e. tank ladders/stairs/ramps)
• Ability to work in an outdoor, maritime environment in a variety of shifts.
Incumbent must possess the ability to work in a safe manner and maintain a constant state of alertness as the nature of work performed within our terminal operations create conditions where a momentary lack of concentration or alertness can lead to catastrophic results.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a valued crew member, the Terminal Operator Trainee at our Newington, NH Seacoast Terminal will work in a team environment with leadership to optimize efficiency while focusing on safety every shift. Being a member of Sprague's terminal operations will give you the opportunity to work and develop skills within a variety of operations including but not limited to:
• Off-loading liquid and bulk product ships/barges, tank transfers and documentation
• Assisting with mooring vessels
• Tank gauging and inventory control
• Operation of scale house, weighing in/out trucks and access control
• Performing terminal safety & security rounds
• Performing preventative maintenance & general upkeep of the terminal
• Operation of small construction equipment (skidsteer, forklift) & snow removal
• Operation of conveyor system
• Operation of hoisting cranes
• Assisting customer drivers and providing customer service
• Occasional travel to other Sprague facilities out of state
• Other duties as required.
