The Scientist is a member of the Spray-Tek team who utilizes their technical expertise to study the environmental biodegradability of polymers as well as assist with analytical characterization of core-shell microcapsules. The Scientist is expected to be a self-motivated, focused, detail-oriented, creative, flexible individual with a can-do and hands-on attitude. This is not a desk job. This individual must be able to complete work on a set timeline – preparation of samples for biodegradability testing, reading the samples for degradation amount on specific days, characterizing core-shell capsules for specific attributes, and flowing to where the work is needed (e.g. performance evaluation of core-shell capsules). The Scientist will be expected to achieve specific, mutually agreed upon group and individual goals while operating in a team environment.
The Scientist is expected to contribute to the overall success and growth of the company. The Scientist is expected to be a team player and actively strive to build effective working relationships based on mutual respect and trust with fellow employees. This position carries a high level of autonomy and accountability.
Responsibilities
The Scientist is expected to:
1) Be familiar with weighing out materials The ideal candidate would be highly detail-oriented in accurately measuring out the necessary amount of polymer using a microbalance.
2) Be cognizant of procedures and processes – it is absolutely critical to follow the procedure as-written to assure accurate results (biodegradability, analytical, etc.)
3) Be familiar with handling chemicals and biohazards; that is, follow safety guidelines and wear proper PPE in handling solvents, chemicals, polymers.
4) Be self-motivated. The role requires a lot of planning, organization, and accountability to assure accurate results. There is a lot of independent work.
5) Be the technical point-of-contact for biodegradability testing.
